Why should I make homemade Italian dressing mix?
We make our own Italian dressing mix because we like knowing what we are consuming! One of the most popular store-bought Italian dressing mix packets has sugar as the first ingredient. It also contains “natural flavor, soy sauce, xanthan and guar gum, and “spices” among other ingredients. While we are not completely against buying this in a pinch, I would prefer my family be consuming ingredients that we know and are familiar with as much as possible.

How to make Bulk Homemade Italian Dressing Mix:
Supplies:
- 1 quart mason jar
- Funnel (optional, but makes it easier)
- Mixing bowl
- Whisk
This recipe makes enough to completely fill a quart mason jar, but you can halve the recipe if you don’t want to have so much!
Ingredients:
- ½ cup + 1 tablespoon (9 tablespoons) each of
- Dried basil
- Dried oregano
- Salt
- Dried thyme
- Onion powder
- ¼ cup + 1 tablespoon (4 ½ tablespoons) each
- Dried parsley
- Garlic powder
- Dried rosemary
- Minced Onion
- 1 ½ tablespoons of crushed red pepper
Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly. While this will all fit in a mason jar, do not try to mix it in the mason jar. It won’t fully incorporate and you will not enjoy the result!
Using a funnel, pour the ingredients into a quart-sized mason jar. Seal and store in a cool, dry area.
In order to use this as a salad dressing, combine 2 tablespoons of the mix with ¼ cup of white or apple cider vinegar and ½ cup of olive oil.
