Sourdough Coffee Cake Recipe

This sourdough coffee cake is a delicious, buttery breakfast pastry that can be enjoyed any time of day!

Ingredients
  

Topping:
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup flour
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
Cake:
  • 2 cups active sourdough starter
  • cup melted butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp salt

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 9x13 baking dish (if you use nonstick spray, parchment paper etc)
  2. In a bowl, mix together the starter, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla. Add the white and brown sugar and mix thoroughly.
  3. Add in the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Mix until it’s incorporated but don’t overmix. Pour into your prepared 9x13 pan.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the topping ingredients until crumbly. Sprinkle over the top.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until it’s baked through.
  6. Let it cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing in to serve.
