Ingredients

  • 1 loaf stale bread or bread that has been left open on the counter for several hours cut into even slices.
  • 1 cup milk of your choice, we used almond milk
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Butter or oil for the pan
  • fresh herbs or dried parsley for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Heat a large skillet on medium heat.
  • In a bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, salt, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  • Soak the bread in the dairy mixture, for about 30 seconds per side (if it’s not fully submerged) or about 45-60 seconds if it's fully submerged.
  • Put about a tablespoon of butter or oil into the hot pan and once melted, place the bread on the skillet. Lower the heat to medium-low.
  • Wait until the first side gets nicely golden brown before flipping the bread over. You only want to flip the bread one time.
  • Repeat until you’ve cooked all of the slices of bread.
