Ingredients

Filling

  • 8 or 9 apples around 3 ½ lbs
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ cup of flour
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • Juice of ½ lemon about 1 ½ tablespoons

Topping

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 ½ sticks of butter softened, but not melted

Instructions

  • First, peel, quarter and slice the apples. The thinner you slice them, the less solid apples you’ll have in the final dish.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  • Next, mix the peeled and sliced apples in a bowl with a pinch of salt, 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon, ¼ tsp nutmeg, ¼ cup of flour, ½ tsp vanilla extract, ½ cup of sugar and the juice of ½ of a lemon (this is about 1 ½ tablespoons).
  • Pour this mixture into a 9 x 13 pan.
  • In a bowl, combine all of the topping ingredients until thoroughly incorporated. Spread evenly over the apple topping.
  • Bake at 375 for about 35 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  • Let the apple cobbler rest for 10 minutes before serving so that the apple filling sets a little bit.
  • Serve warm, plain or with vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
