Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic minced
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • ½ tsp dried ginger or 1 ½ tbsp fresh grated ginger
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • ¼ - ½ tsp crushed red pepper

Method

  1. In a large saute pan, cook the ground beef with the salt and sesame oil. When the meat is cooked through, add the 3-4 cloves of minced garlic and saute until the garlic is cooked as well.
  2. Strain the excess oil out of the pan.
  3. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and crushed red pepper. Pour the mixture over the cooked ground beef and simmer on medium-low until the sauce thickens slightly and everything is well mixed together.
  4. Serve over rice, with mixed greens, and/or a fried egg and hot sauce. If you’re going to serve with fried eggs, try frying the egg in sesame oil to keep the Asian flavors throughout.
