If you’re looking for a simple but delicious apple recipe to serve this year, look no further than mom’s best apple cobbler recipe. Even though she hasn’t made it in years due to food allergies, it’s the best apple cobbler I have ever eaten. Read on for how to make it yourself!
This recipe brings back a lot of memories for me. I remember sitting in my grandmother’s kitchen helping my mom mix the apples and watching her mix the topping together. After the turkey was served and the table cleaned, this was the highlight of the evening. Personally, I think it’s so good that it doesn’t need anything else, but if you top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, I don’t think you’ll ever find a better apple dessert recipe.
What is the difference between cobbler, crisp, and crumble?
A cobbler is topped with a biscuit or cake batter. A crip is topped with an oat streusel, and a crumble is a streusel that doesn’t include oats. This apple cobbler recipe is a mix between a cobbler and a crumble.
What type of apples should I use for apple cobbler?
This recipe is made with gala or roma apples. If you want to add a little tartness, you could replace two or three of the apples with a more tart one like granny smith.

How to Make Mom’s Best Apple Cobbler Recipe
Ingredients:
Filling:
8 or 9 apples (around 3 ½ lbs)
Pinch of salt
1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
¼ cup of flour
½ tsp vanilla extract
½ cup of sugar
Juice of ½ lemon (about 1 ½ tablespoons)
Topping:
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 egg
2 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
1 ½ sticks of butter (softened, but not melted)
Assembly:
First, peel, quarter and slice the apples. The thinner you slice them, the less solid apples you’ll have in the final dish. I use this peeler/corer/slicer for my apples and love the results. Once they’ve been cored, peeled, and sliced, I halve each apple.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Next, mix the peeled and sliced apples in a bowl with a pinch of salt, 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon, ¼ tsp nutmeg, ¼ cup of flour, ½ tsp vanilla extract, ½ cup of sugar, and the juice of ½ of a lemon (this is about 1 ½ tablespoons). Pour this mixture into a 9 x 13 pan. If your 9×13 pan is deep enough, you can mix all of the ingredients and the apples in your pan.
In a bowl, combine all of the topping ingredients until thoroughly incorporated. Spread evenly over the apple topping. Bake at 375 for about 35 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Let the apple cobbler rest for 10 minutes before serving so that the apple filling sets a little bit.
Serve warm, plain or with vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
